Reflection

This interactive model is the second module of My Bento Journey, called the Five Principles of Washoku. The learning objective is for the learner to understand and evaluate the Five Principles of washoku for their own daily culinary and dining practices.

Matching and drag and drop

I found this method a good way to casually test the learner's retention of the meaning behind washoku and its principles. It's a way to review what the principles are and the intention behind them.

Adobe Captivate Classic

I was taken aback by how Captivate was similar to PowerPoint, as I used to design in PowerPoint for corporate presentations. I did Adobe Captivate Classic instead of the current version due the fact that the the most immediate and comprehensive source, LearnIt showed demos using the older version. Also, I'm more used to drop down menus and access being above the surface rather than hidden and already streamlined, like the current version appears to be. I chose it because it had some compatibility with Kajabi, which has been lauded as a good tool for small business owners. I am interested in possibly creating a business around lifelong learning, a passion of mine. I may want to try Articulate in the future as that's another major course authoring application to master.

The other major thing that happened to me with Captivate was that it crashed quite a number of times and therefore, I ended up a less ambitious design. I'd call it barebones actually, but I did learn a lot in the process and the throes of attempting to meet this very challenging deadline.

Update

Upon my second pass of Captivate, I created my files from scratch rather than a template. Do this prevented the crashes. I cautiously attempted an interactive video using YouTube as the video delivery mechanism in order to lighten the file size. This worked until I had to publish and then I ran into errors that forced me to embed my videos. I am publishing my updated video here (the link above).
