Case Studies
Case Study: Cognitive Load & Protein Bars
The protein bar recipe serves up the perfect metaphor for cognitive load. With a compact size and limited capacity, much like our working memory, bars include 5-7 key ingredients to sustain our energy. Recipes are also short term in scope, meant for working memory use. With clear learning objectives and familiar schema (format), they are easy-to-learn daily digestible learning for everyone.
Experiential Learning: Visual brand/re-brand
Using the experiential learning model, I developed a visual branding activity based on existing projects assigned at the Academy of Art University in the graphic design and fashion marketing departments.
Formal learning: 2D Foundations – Foothill College
2D Foundations – Community College as formal education & Andragogy: A short while ago I had contemplated becoming a K-12 art/art history teacher. I was curious about art education standards so I enrolled in one of many California community colleges.
Learning Scenario: Behaviorism & Instructional Design for Cultural Artefacts
Behaviorism emphasizes observable behavior, stimulus and response, and positive and negative reinforcement in the learning scenario. AP Art History poses an ideal topic for this approach with verifiable learning transmission.
Learning Scenario: Constructivism & Japanese
Survival Japanese: Deciphering honorific/humble speak. One of the most difficult forms to master, especially at the comprehension level is the polite form of Japanese. Used in customer service scenarios, it's at times hard to decipher and may make even intermediate learners blush with their lack of comprehension. Learning through mastering these types of scenarios would be a great peer to peer exercise employing constructivist techniques.
